One of [Ward] Kimball’s more elaborate and dangerous practical jokes involved Milt Kahl and played on their wariness of each other. At a Disney studio party, Kimball and the Firehouse Five were entertaining the employees and their families. All of a sudden, Kahl rose from the table he was sharing with his wife and kids, and yelled, “I can’t stand this shitty damn music!!” He pulled out a gun and shot Kimball (using blank bullets). Kimball, the complete ham, did his best James Cagney impression: he grabbed his chest (and broke a capsule of ketchup on his shirt) and keeled over, spraying “blood” everywhere. Kahl had finally crached and killed Kimball! Panic ensued. People screamed and ran. Recalls Kahl’s daughter: “They just got way beyond what was socially acceptable in a practical joke.
